The Residency

As part of the Creative Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage funding for Year of Natural Scotland 2013, the National Trust for Scotland has been awarded two artist residencies to help develop the potential of our natural places and to engage more people creatively in thinking about nature and its care. Nicky Coutts at Inverewe Gardens (the other NTS property) and Karen Rann at Brodick Castle, Gardens, Country Park and Goatfell.

Both properties have recently been designated as “Signature” projects by the NTS. In essence, this means that the Trust is developing major strategic plans to ensure their long term sustainability in consultation with their local communities. They are both of international, historical and environmental significance and are located in National Scenic Areas.

Other Year of Natural Scotland artists are:

Mike Inglis and Rachel Mimiec with Scottish Natural Heritage

Rob Mulholland and James Winnett with the Forestry Commission

Steve Messam with Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park
